Welcome, and thank you for visiting ThePurpleCounsellor.
I am a counsellor providing both short- and long-term therapy to adult individuals in East Sussex, UK.
My name is Tara, I am qualified in Person-Centred Counselling and I am a registered member of BACP and I adhere to their ethical framework for good practice and guidelines for online counselling and psychotherapy. More information can be found on website.
I also work two days a week as a Registered Nurse. I am married with two adult sons and I am a Christian and attend a local charismatic church where I am a volunteer and an adult safeguarding lead. I am happy to incorporate prayer into our sessions if this is something you would like.

The Person-Centred Approach fits my own philosophy as it has at its very core, an unshakable belief that all people are good. Person-Centred counselling believes that each and every person can, and will, become a more fully functioning person if given the correct conditions. The underpinning principles of the Person-Centred Approach are focused on the counsellor being honest, non-judgmental and fully accepting whilst being fully integrated in the relationship allowing the client to lead and set the pace. I aim to offer these conditions as best as I can during our sessions.
Online counselling is a way for you to engage in counselling using technology; I currently use telephone or video call using Zoom. You direct your counselling by selecting the method of communication you feel most comfortable with and we negotiate the time for me to contact you for a 50 minutes session.

People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through counselling:
Depression
Problems with confidence or self-esteem
Anger management
Issues relating to sexuality
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Problems with family or school life

Client
“I have now completed many therapy sessions with Tara and am delighted with her approach. I feel safe, supported and listened to. Tara interacts very effectively by asking questions; seeking clarity or more information; and contributes insights, observations and knowledge that I find most helpful. I look forward to our therapy sessions as I am learning so much about myself working in tandem with Tara.”
Client
“Tara has helped me so much. I’ve had so much therapy over the past ten years. This is the first time I’ve been listened to properly and helped. I’ve got a long way to go but each week I feel a bit closer.
Can’t thank Tara enough!”
